In 1850, a shop created by two Scots opens on the waterfront of the current rue des Vœux in hong kong, this is the beginning of Lane Crawford. It developed rapidly and extended its influence in 1862 to Shanghai and Japan. It was becoming well known in the region because of the sheer amount of product in their departement stores. It was even described as the place to buy anything from a pin to an anchor. After the war, Lane Crawford was forced to rebuild from scratch but still managed to revive quickly. Today, the focus has shifted from a department store to a specialty store with exclusive brands. Lane Crawford describes itself as one of the world's largest fashion, beauty and lifestyle stores with the largest portfolio of designers in China.
